LAW FIRM PARTNERS NOW FELLOW MPS

KUALA LUMPUR: They are partners in a legal firm but after their recent win in the general election, the two new MPs Datuk Azalina Othman and Datuk Mohd Zaid Ibrahim will soon be going to Parliament together.

“I can’t wait to go to Parliament with my former boss. I have a lot to thank him for as he has been supportive and instrumental in the success of my political career,” said the Puteri Umno chief at a special victory gathering which was held at Menara Millenium in Pusat Bandar Damansara yesterday.

The gathering was jointly held by Azalina and Mohd Zaid, who are also partners in the Malaysian law firm, Messrs Zaid Ibrahim & Co, and its branch office, Zaid Ibrahim & Co LLP, in Singapore.

“As an MP, I think we can give a lot to the people. The recent win proves that young professionals are giving their full support to the Prime Minister and that is why there is a clean sweep in almost all the states,” Azalina said.

She added that she was all geared up to serve her constituents.

The 40-year-old Azalina won the Pengerang parliamentary seat in Johor uncontested while Mohd Zaid won the Kota Baru parliamentary constituency by a majority of 1,723 votes in a straight fight with Parti Keadilan Nasional’s Nik Mahmood Nik Hassan.

Mohd Zaid said he would try his best to assist the people in Kota Baru.

“I will look into housing, drugs and drainage problems. I am confident the Federal government will assist me in solving these problems,” he said.

He also said the Election Commission should tackle the problem of names missing from the electoral roll and a lack of enforcement on polling day.
